OUR MISSION:
Motivating children and youth to participate in physical activity
while promoting the importance of teamwork and healthy living.
Active Healthy Kids Canada, a research group formed to promote physical fitness, released its sixth annual report in April 2010. The report shows that Canadian youth are not getting enough physical activity in their daily lives. Some of the key findings are listed below:
- None of the provinces or territories are meeting the Canadian physical activity guideline of 90 minutes of daily activity.
- Only 12% of Canadian children and youth actually are meeting the physical activity guidelines.
- 74% of a group of children in Ontario said they would like to do something active after school if they had the choice.
- Children involved in organized sport and physical activity programs have higher overall levels of physical activity.
- Positive youth development and youth-led models have been shown to be helpful in fostering positive peer engagement in schools and communities.
LTD Sports’ vision is to implement programs that will focus on the issues that have been presented by the Active Healthy Kids Canada Report. In order for these programs to be successful there needs to be combined effort from schools, families, and other community organizations.
To achieve our mission, LTD Sports will organize and manage the following pilot programs:
